Wisdom

Proverbs 4:5-7

19 October 2025 · Hero Mission
Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.
Proverbs 4:5-7

Mission Briefing

The Most Valuable Thing You Can Get

If you could get anything in the world – unlimited money, incredible powers, or the greatest gadgets ever – what would you choose? King Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, said the absolute best thing to get is wisdom. And he would know! This mission explores Proverbs 4:5-7.

What Does Proverbs 4:5-7 Mean?

In this passage, Solomon is writing to his own children – he wanted them to chase wisdom the same way some people chase fame or money. He says wisdom will “keep” you and “guard” you, like a loyal friend who watches your back. The repetition – “get wisdom, get wisdom” – shows how serious he was. He knew that smart choices make for a truly great life, and smart choices start with wisdom from God.

Hero Challenge

Ask the wisest person you know – a grandparent, parent, teacher, or pastor – to share one piece of wisdom with you this week. Write it down. Then think about how you could apply that wisdom to something you are facing right now. Wisdom passed from person to person is one of God’s greatest gifts.

Did You Know?

When God appeared to Solomon and offered him anything he wanted, Solomon asked for wisdom – not riches, power, or a long life. God was so pleased that He gave Solomon wisdom AND all the other things he did not ask for! You can read that amazing story in 1 Kings 3. Solomon then wrote much of the book of Proverbs to pass that wisdom on to others.

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

Solomon asked for wisdom instead of toys or money. If God said you could have anything, what would you ask for?

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

Proverbs says wisdom will “guard” you like a protector. Can you think of a time when making a wise choice kept you out of trouble?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

Solomon repeats “get wisdom” over and over in this passage. Why do you think he felt he had to say it more than once? What does that tell you about how easy or hard it is to actually prioritize wisdom in real life?

♥ Mission Prayer

God, give me a heart that loves wisdom more than shortcuts or easy answers. Help me learn from the people You have placed in my life and from Your Word. Guard my steps with the wisdom that only comes from You. Amen.
