The Bag That Never Wears Out
Imagine a bag of money that never runs out, never gets stolen, and never wears out — sounds like something from a story, right? Jesus says it’s real, and He tells us exactly how to get one! The secret might surprise you.
What Does This Mean?
Jesus isn’t telling everyone to give away absolutely everything they own — He’s teaching His followers to hold their possessions loosely. When we are willing to give generously to people in need, we are building something in heaven that is permanent and secure. Earthly things deteriorate and disappear, but a life of generous love creates eternal value. And just like in Matthew 6, Jesus ends with the reminder: your heart goes wherever you invest your treasure.
Hero Challenge
Look through your room or your toys and find one or two items you no longer use that could help someone else. With a parent’s help, donate them to a shelter, a church, or a family in need. As you give them away, say a prayer asking God to bless whoever receives them.
Did You Know?
Luke chapter 12 contains some of Jesus’ most powerful teachings about money, worry, and where to put your trust. Jesus talked about money more than almost any other topic — because He knew that what we do with what we have shows a lot about what we believe about God. Generosity is one of the greatest acts of faith!
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
If you had an extra toy, do you think you could give it to a child who has none? How would that make you feel?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
Jesus says your heart follows your treasure. What do you want your heart to follow most?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Giving possessions away can feel scary or hard. What fears might stop someone from being generous, and what truths from this verse could help overcome those fears?
