Mission Briefing
The Day We Say “He’s Here!”
Imagine the moment when every sad thing is finally over – and you get to point to God and say, “THAT is my God. I waited for Him, and He came!” Isaiah saw this moment coming, and it is the greatest celebration in all of history. This mission explores Isaiah 25:8-9.
What Does Isaiah 25:8-9 Mean?
God promises to do something completely impossible by human standards: swallow up death forever. Death is the one thing no human can defeat – but God will defeat it permanently. He will also wipe away tears from every face and remove every disgrace His people have suffered. Then comes the celebration – people will say with joy, “We waited for Him, and He saved us!” The waiting will be worth it completely.
Hero Challenge
Waiting for God is one of the hardest and most powerful things a person of faith can do. This week, practice waiting well: choose one situation where you feel impatient – with a person, a problem, or a prayer – and choose to trust God instead of giving up. Waiting with faith is an act of heroism!
Did You Know?
Isaiah 25 is part of what scholars call the “Isaiah Apocalypse” – chapters 24 through 27 – which describe God’s ultimate judgment and restoration of the world. This passage is so powerful that Paul quotes it in 1 Corinthians 15:54 when he writes about the resurrection: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” Isaiah’s words were still echoing 700 years later!
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
How do you feel when someone wipes away your tears and tells you everything is going to be okay?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
The people in this verse say “we waited for Him.” Why do you think waiting for God is such an important part of the story?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Isaiah wrote this during a time of great suffering for God’s people. How does reading a promise like this change the way you handle your own hard seasons – even when the fulfillment feels far away?
