Mission Briefing
Joy When Everything Goes Wrong – Is That Even Possible?
Imagine losing your crops, your animals, your food supply – everything you depend on – all at once. That’s what Habakkuk was facing. And yet he made one of the boldest declarations in the whole Bible: “I will STILL rejoice in the LORD!” How on earth is that possible? This mission explores Habakkuk 3:17-19.
What Does Habakkuk 3:17-19 Mean?
Habakkuk lists everything that could go wrong – empty farms, no fruit, no animals, no food. Then he says “YET I will rejoice.” He wasn’t pretending things were fine. He was saying: even though all of this is gone, GOD is still here, and God is enough. True joy doesn’t come from circumstances – it comes from knowing who God is. When life strips everything away, faith shows us what we are really standing on.
Hero Challenge
Write or say out loud: “Even if _______, I will still trust God.” Fill in the blank with something you’d find really hard to lose or go through. Saying it out loud is practicing the kind of faith Habakkuk had – choosing God over your circumstances.
Did You Know?
Habakkuk is one of the shortest books in the Bible – just three chapters – but it packs one of the most powerful faith statements ever written. Habakkuk started his book full of questions and frustration, asking God hard questions. By the end, he arrived at unshakeable trust. His journey shows us that asking God hard questions is okay – and faith can grow through the struggle.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Can we still feel happy in our hearts even when something sad happens? Who gives us real joy inside?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
Habakkuk lost almost everything but still chose joy. What do you think gave him the strength to do that?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Habakkuk asks God hard questions before arriving at this faith declaration. How does going through doubt and hard questions actually make faith stronger in the end?
♥ Mission Prayer
God, even when things go wrong, help me choose joy because You are my strength. I don't want my happiness to depend only on circumstances — I want it to come from knowing You. Make my feet like a deer's and help me stand on high places. Amen.
