Mission Briefing
Mercy Belongs to God – and He Gives It Freely
Daniel was one of the bravest, most faithful heroes in the whole Bible. But in this prayer, he humbles himself completely and admits his people have made terrible mistakes. And then he points to something that gives him hope: mercy belongs to God! This mission explores Daniel 9:9.
What Does Daniel 9:9 Mean?
Daniel is praying for his whole nation, honestly admitting that they had turned away from God. But instead of giving up, he turns to the one thing he knows for certain: God owns mercy and forgiveness. That means no matter how badly we have messed up, forgiveness is in God’s hands to give – and He is generous with it to those who turn back to Him.
Hero Challenge
Daniel prayed for his people, not just for himself. This week, write a short prayer for your family, your school, or your community. Admit that people make mistakes, and ask God to pour out His mercy on them. Praying for others is one of the most powerful things a faith-filled kid can do.
Did You Know?
Daniel 9 contains one of the most beautiful and honest prayers in the entire Bible. Daniel prayed this prayer while his people were in exile in Babylon – far from home and in a very dark season. He did not pretend things were fine. He was completely honest with God, and he trusted God’s mercy to be the answer.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Daniel prayed for his whole family and all his people, not just himself. Can you pray for someone in your family today?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
Daniel said “we have rebelled” – he included himself in the prayer even though he was known for being faithful. Why is humility important even for people who are doing their best to follow God?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Daniel prayed honestly about failure while holding onto confident hope in God’s mercy. How does that balance of honesty and hope look different from either making excuses or giving up in despair?
♥ Mission Prayer
Lord, mercy and forgiveness belong to You, and I am so grateful. Like Daniel, I want to be honest with You about my failures and trust that Your mercy is bigger than any mistake. Please pour Your forgiveness over me and the people I love. Amen.
