Mission Briefing
The Greatest Treasure Hunt Ever
Treasure hunters spend their whole lives searching for gold and hidden riches. But Paul reveals a secret: the greatest treasure in all of history is hidden in a person – Jesus Christ. And the amazing part? You have access to it right now! This mission explores Colossians 2:2-3.
What Does Colossians 2:2-3 Mean?
Paul describes Jesus as the place where ALL the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden. This means that the more we know Jesus – through prayer, reading Scripture, and living in community with other believers – the more we discover these hidden riches. But notice something else in this verse: Paul says hearts being “knit together in love” is part of the journey. We find the treasure best when we search for it together with others who love God.
Hero Challenge
Go on a treasure hunt this week – but in the Bible. Pick a book of the Bible you have never read before and read just the first chapter. Write down one thing you discovered that surprised you or felt like a treasure. Share your discovery with someone else. Every time you open Scripture, you are digging for real treasure.
Did You Know?
Paul wrote the letter to the Colossians to warn them against a teaching that said you needed special secret knowledge – only available to a select few – to truly know God. Paul’s response was powerful: ALL the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are in Christ, and Christ is available to everyone who believes. There is no secret club or special level – just Jesus.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Paul says Jesus holds hidden treasures of wisdom. If you found a treasure chest, what do you hope would be inside?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
What does it mean that wisdom and knowledge are “hidden” in Christ? How do we discover them?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Paul links hearts being knit together in love with reaching understanding and wisdom. Why do you think community and relationship are essential parts of growing wise – and not just something we do alone?
♥ Mission Prayer
God, thank You for hiding all wisdom and knowledge in Jesus. Help me treasure time spent getting to know Him through prayer and Your Word. Lead me to friends who are searching for the same treasure so we can find it together. Amen.
