Mission Briefing
Approved by God
Imagine getting a seal of approval – not from a teacher or a coach, but from God Himself! Paul says that’s exactly what happened to him, and it completely changed how he lived and talked to others. This mission explores 1 Thessalonians 2:4.
What Does 1 Thessalonians 2:4 Mean?
Paul is explaining why he preaches the way he does – honestly, even when it’s hard to hear, without flattering people or adjusting his message to make everyone like him. He knows God has trusted him with something incredibly important: the good news about Jesus. Because of that, his goal is to please God – the One who searches and knows every heart – not to collect compliments from people.
Hero Challenge
This week, practice telling the truth even in one situation where it would be easier to say what people want to hear. Maybe tell a friend something honestly kind, or own up to a mistake. Remember: God sees your heart, and His approval means everything.
Did You Know?
Paul wrote this letter to the believers in Thessalonica – a city in modern-day Greece. He had been kicked out of that city for preaching about Jesus, yet he still wrote to encourage them with joy and honesty. He never changed his message to make it easier – because he was living for an audience of One: God.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Who knows everything you do and think – even when no one else can see? (God!) Does that make you want to do good things even when no one is watching?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
Paul says he spoke to please God, not people. What does it mean to “please God”? How is that different from just following rules?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Paul says God “tests our hearts” – not just our actions. What do you think that means? How would it change the way you speak and act if you remembered that God sees your motivations, not just your behavior?
♥ Mission Prayer
God, You know everything in my heart — even the things I try to hide. I want to live to please You, not just to look good to others. Help me be honest and faithful because I love You. Amen.
