Mission Briefing

When One Hurts, We All Hurt – When One Wins, We All Win!

Have you ever bumped your little toe and felt it all the way up to your eyeballs? Your whole body reacts! Paul uses that same idea to explain how God’s family is supposed to work – when one person suffers, everyone cares. When one person wins, everyone celebrates! This mission explores 1 Corinthians 12:26.

What Does 1 Corinthians 12:26 Mean?

Paul is describing the most connected kind of community imaginable. In God’s family, you are never alone in your pain – others feel it with you and come alongside you. And when great things happen to someone, there’s no jealousy – everyone cheers! This is the opposite of how the world often works, where people compete and feel threatened by each other’s success. God’s family is designed to be a team that truly cares.

Hero Challenge

This week, find someone who is going through something hard – a tough test, a friendship problem, or something sad at home. Don’t just say “that’s too bad” – actually sit with them, ask questions, and let them know they are not alone. Also look for someone who had a win this week and genuinely celebrate with them!

Did You Know?

In ancient Roman culture, people were often expected to celebrate victories privately – public displays of joy on behalf of someone else were unusual. Paul was calling the Corinthian believers to a completely different way of life, one where shared joy and shared pain were both normal and expected. This radical togetherness was one of the most striking things about early faith communities to people watching from the outside.

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

When your friend is sad, what do you do to help them feel better?

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

Has someone ever celebrated a win with you that made you feel really good? What did they do that made it special?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

Genuine celebration of others is harder than it sounds – especially when we feel jealous. What does it take to truly rejoice with someone when they get something good that you wanted?

♥ Mission Prayer

God, help me care so deeply about the people around me that I hurt when they hurt and celebrate when they celebrate. Make me someone who truly shows up for others. Amen.
