Mission Briefing
When someone becomes part of a team, something amazing happens – what the team goes through, they go through together. Romans 6:5 tells us that when we follow Jesus, we become so connected to Him that His story becomes part of our story. He died, and through baptism we say goodbye to our old way of living. He rose to life again – and that same rising-up power lives in us too. We are not just fans of Jesus. We are joined to Him.
That means every single day, you get to choose to live in the new life He has given you. Old habits, old fears, old ways of thinking – those belong to the old life. The new life looks like getting back up when you fall, choosing kindness when it is hard, and trusting that God’s power in you is stronger than anything pulling you down. You are not starting from zero. You are starting from resurrection.
What Does Romans 6:5 Mean?
Think about something in your life that feels stuck or like it cannot change. Romans 6:5 says that is exactly the kind of thing resurrection power is for. You are connected to the same Jesus who walked out of a tomb. That is not a small thing. Whatever you are facing today, you face it as someone who has new life on the inside.
Mission Activity
Get a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle. On the left side, write or draw something from your “old life” – a bad habit, a fear, or something you want to leave behind. On the right side, write or draw what your “new life” looks like instead. Stick it somewhere you will see it this week as a reminder: you are a new-life person. Dear God, thank You that because of Jesus I get to live a brand new life. Help me to leave behind the old things that pull me down and walk in the new life You have given me. When I forget, remind me — I am a resurrection person. Amen.
