Mission Briefing

The Best Kind of Competition – Honor!

The Bible usually tells us not to compete against each other. But Romans 12:10 has one race where competing is totally encouraged – the race to see who can show MORE honor and love! Are you ready to compete?

What Does Romans 12:10 Mean?

Paul wrote “outdo one another in showing honor” – meaning we should try to out-love and out-honor each other in the best possible way. Brotherly affection means caring for others like family – warmly, genuinely, without keeping score. Instead of trying to get the most attention or be the most impressive, God’s people should be racing to treat others as more important than themselves. What a radical idea!

Hero Challenge

Every day this week, find one person to honor – give them a genuine compliment, let them go first, or say something publicly kind about them. Keep a secret tally of how many times you “won” the honor race. The more you give, the more everyone wins!

Did You Know?

Romans 12 is one of the most practical chapters in the entire Bible, packed with instructions for how believers should treat each other and the world around them. Paul wrote the book of Romans from Corinth, around AD 57, and it is considered one of the most important theological letters ever written. But Romans 12 shows that great theology always turns into real-life love!

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

Can you say something really kind about one person in your family today? That’s showing honor – and it makes God smile!

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

What does it mean to “outdo” someone in showing honor? Can you think of a creative way to show someone they are really valued and special?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

Our culture often pushes us to compete for attention and recognition. How does the idea of competing to honor OTHERS flip that idea upside down – and what would your school or family look like if everyone did this?

♥ Mission Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to love others the way You love me — warmly and generously. Give me eyes to see how I can honor the people around me today. Let me be the one who makes others feel truly seen and valued.
