Mission Briefing
Faithful All the Way
What if someone promised you the greatest prize you could ever imagine – but told you the path to get there would include really hard things? Would you still say yes? Jesus made exactly that offer to a group of brave believers and He’s making it to you too: be faithful, and a crown of life is waiting for you. This mission explores Revelation 2:10.
What Does Revelation 2:10 Mean?
Jesus is speaking directly to a church that was facing serious danger and suffering. He doesn’t promise to remove the hard things – instead, He tells them not to be afraid and to stay faithful through them. “Faithful unto death” doesn’t just mean dying – it means staying loyal to Jesus no matter what it costs. And the reward? The “crown of life” – eternal life with God. Jesus is saying: I see what you’re going through, it’s worth it, and I will reward your faithfulness.
Hero Challenge
Think of one area of your life where being faithful to God costs you something – maybe standing up for what’s right, choosing honesty, or sticking with your faith when friends don’t share it. This week, choose to stay faithful in that area no matter how hard it gets. Remember the crown waiting for those who endure.
Did You Know?
This message was written to the church in Smyrna, a city in what is now Turkey. Smyrna had a large and powerful group of people who were hostile to followers of Jesus and often got them in trouble with the Roman authorities. The “ten days” may have referred to a specific, limited period of persecution – a reminder from Jesus that the suffering had an end point. God always sets limits on how long hard things last.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Have you ever kept doing the right thing even when it was hard or people didn’t like it? That’s what being faithful means – and Jesus loves when we do that!
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
Jesus says “do not fear” before telling them hard things are coming. How can knowing that Jesus already knows what we’re going to go through help us be brave?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Jesus promises a “crown of life” to those who are faithful. How does having an eternal reward in view change the way you make decisions when faithfulness is costly or uncomfortable?
