Scared? Trust God!
Here is something really important: even the bravest people in the Bible got scared sometimes. King David – the giant-slayer, the warrior-king – wrote this psalm when he was surrounded by enemies who wanted to hurt him. And what did he do? He turned to God. That is what real bravery looks like. This mission explores Psalms 56:3.
What Does Psalms 56:3 Mean?
David does not say “when I am afraid, I pretend I’m not” or “when I am afraid, I figure it out myself.” He says he puts his trust in God. That word “put” means it is a choice – an action. Being brave does not mean having no fear. It means choosing to trust God even when your heart is pounding. That is the kind of courage God loves to honor.
Hero Challenge
Think of one thing that makes you feel afraid or anxious – maybe it is something at school, something in the news, or a big change coming up. Write it down and then write Psalm 56:3 right next to it. Every time that fear comes up this week, say the verse out loud and make the choice to trust God with it.
Did You Know?
David wrote Psalm 56 when he was captured by the Philistines – yes, the same people that Goliath came from! He was completely surrounded and in real danger. Yet instead of giving up, he wrote a song of trust to God. The heading of this psalm even says “Do Not Destroy” – and God did not. David survived and went on to become one of the greatest kings in Israel’s history.
