Mission Briefing
God Is Your Fortress in the Storm!
Have you ever been caught outside in a big storm and run to find shelter? That safe, dry place feels amazing when everything outside is wild and scary. God is that shelter – but for your whole life. And the best part? He’s never far away when you need Him! This mission explores Psalms 46:1.
What Does Psalms 46:1 Mean?
“Refuge” means a safe place to hide and be protected. “Strength” means God isn’t just a hiding spot – He is also the power that helps you face challenges. “A very present help” means He is RIGHT THERE the moment trouble comes – not five minutes later, not after you’ve figured it out yourself, but immediately present. You have the most powerful Helper in the universe on speed dial!
Hero Challenge
The next time something goes wrong or you feel afraid this week, try saying out loud: “God, You are my refuge and strength. I need Your help right now.” Practice running to God first before you panic. Notice how it feels to bring your trouble to Him immediately instead of trying to handle it alone.
Did You Know?
Psalm 46 was written during a time of great national disaster – possibly an earthquake or an enemy invasion. Even while the earth was shaking and rivers were roaring, the writers declared that God was their unshakeable refuge. This same psalm inspired Martin Luther to write the famous hymn “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” in the 1500s!
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Where do you go when you feel scared? Did you know God is the safest place you can ever run to?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
What does “a very present help” mean? Why is it important that God is there immediately and not just eventually?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
The writers of Psalm 46 declared God as their refuge even while disaster was happening around them. How do you build the kind of faith that can trust God in the middle of the storm, not just after it’s over?
♥ Mission Prayer
Father God, thank You for being my refuge and my strength. When trouble comes, help me to run to You first and trust that You are right there with me. You are my safe place, and I am so grateful I never have to face hard things alone. Amen.
