Mission Briefing
Psalms 139:11-12 is one of the most comforting things ever written: even if total darkness surrounded you, it wouldn’t change anything for God. He doesn’t need a night light. He doesn’t need better conditions. The darkness that makes us feel invisible and alone? To God, it’s as bright as the middle of the day. He sees everything. He sees you – right now, wherever you are, whatever is happening.
Sometimes life has dark moments. Maybe it’s something scary at home. Maybe it’s a feeling you can’t shake. Maybe it’s a situation that feels hidden and hopeless. The world might not see it. You might feel completely alone in it. But God’s vision isn’t limited by circumstances. He’s not squinting in the dark trying to find you. He sees you perfectly, completely, and He hasn’t looked away.
What Does Psalms 139:11-12 Mean?
Nothing you’re going through is hidden from God. Not the tears you cry at night. Not the worry you haven’t told anyone about. Not the thing you’re embarrassed about. He’s not startled by it and He’s not stepping back from it. He’s right there, seeing it clearly, and He cares deeply. You don’t have to step into the light to get His attention – He finds you in the dark. That means you’re never truly alone, not for a single second.
Mission Activity
Get a dark piece of paper (or color a piece of paper solid black with crayon). Then take a yellow or gold crayon and write your name in the middle of the darkness. Around your name, write: “God sees me here.” Hold it up to the light and see how your name glows through. That’s a picture of how God sees you – even in the darkest moments, your name is bright to Him. (Note: the verse above is paraphrased to help younger readers connect with its meaning. The original is Psalms 139:11-12 NIV.)
♥ Mission Prayer
Dear God, thank You that no darkness is dark to You. When I'm scared or when life feels dark and confusing, remind me that You see me clearly and You are always right there. I trust You with the dark places. Amen.
