Psalm 50:10-12

19 October 2025 · Hero Mission
For every beast of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills. I know all the birds of the hills, and all that moves in the field is mine. 'If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and its fullness are mine.'
Psalm 50:10-12

Mission Briefing

A Thousand Hills, A Million Birds

Here’s a wild thought: God has never once needed anything from us. Not our money, not our time, not our offerings. He already owns every animal in every forest on every hill in the whole world. So why does He ask us to give? Because He loves us – and giving is good for our hearts! This mission explores Psalm 50:10-12.

What Does Psalm 50:10-12 Mean?

Psalm 50:10-12 is God speaking directly, and He makes a stunning point: He doesn’t collect our offerings because He’s in need. He already owns it all – every creature in every corner of creation. “The cattle on a thousand hills” was a way of describing immeasurable wealth in ancient times. If God were hungry, He wouldn’t ask us – the world and everything in it is already His. So when we give, serve, or worship, we’re not doing God a favor. We are responding to His love, training our own hearts to be generous and grateful, and participating in His mission by choice – not out of obligation. That’s actually more beautiful than any amount of stuff we could hand over.

Hero Challenge

Think about why you give – whether it’s to your church, a cause, or someone in need. This week, practice giving something not because you have to, but because you genuinely want to. It could be your time helping a sibling, a kind word to someone who needs it, or a portion of your allowance given joyfully. Then reflect: how does it feel when you give freely instead of feeling forced?

Did You Know?

“The cattle on a thousand hills” was a common ancient expression for extraordinary wealth. In a world where livestock was currency, owning cattle on a thousand hills meant you had more than anyone could count. God uses this culturally familiar picture to make a profound point: no human gift adds to His wealth. Our giving is about relationship and transformation – it changes us, not Him.

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

Does God need our stuff? (No – He owns everything!) So why do we give to Him anyway? (Hint: because we love Him!)

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

If God already owns everything, why do you think He still invites us to give and serve? What do you think He’s really after when He asks for our hearts?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

God says He would not tell us if He were hungry – because the world is His. How does understanding that God needs nothing from us change your view of giving, worship, and service? Does it make it feel more meaningful or less? Explain your thinking.

♥ Mission Prayer

Lord, thank You for not needing anything from me — yet still inviting me to be part of what You are doing. Help me to give freely and joyfully, not out of duty, but out of love for You. Grow my heart to be generous because You are generous.
