Mission Briefing
Who Gets to Be Close to God?
Psalm 15 starts with a big question: who gets to be close to God? The answer might surprise you – it’s not about being perfect, but about what’s happening on the inside! This mission explores Psalm 15:1-2.
What Does Psalm 15:1-2 Mean?
God’s “tent” and “holy hill” are picture-words for being in God’s presence – close to Him, knowing Him personally. The answer to who lives there starts with three things: walking blamelessly (living with clean intentions), doing what is right, and speaking truth in your heart. That last part is especially important – it means being honest with yourself first, before worrying about everyone else. Real honesty starts from the inside out.
Hero Challenge
Spend a few quiet minutes this week being honest with God about something – a feeling, a struggle, or a mistake. God already knows, but there’s something powerful about being truthful from your heart. Notice how it draws you closer to Him.
Did You Know?
Psalm 15 is only 5 verses long, but it packs in 11 qualities of someone who walks closely with God. Bible scholars think it may have been used like a checklist at the gates of the temple – a reminder to people of who they were called to be before they came to worship. Inner character was always more important than outer ceremony.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Does God want us to be honest in our hearts? (Yes – He loves truth!)
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
What do you think “speaking truth in your heart” means? How is that different from just telling the truth out loud?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Why might being honest with yourself be harder than being honest with other people? How can you practice that kind of inner honesty?
