"Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise." (Proverbs 19:20)
Have you ever planted a seed and watched it grow into something amazing over time? Becoming wise works the same way – it’s a journey that starts with two important choices!
First: “Listen to advice.” This means actually paying attention when parents, teachers, coaches, or other wise people try to help us. It’s easy to ignore good advice or think we know better, but wise people are good listeners who value what others have learned through experience.
Second: “Accept discipline.” This doesn’t just mean punishment – it means being willing to learn, change, and grow when someone corrects or teaches us. Instead of getting defensive or angry when someone tries to help us improve, we accept their guidance with thankful hearts.
The amazing promise is: “at the end you will be counted among the wise.” People who listen to advice and accept discipline don’t stay the same – they actually become wise themselves! It’s like a transformation that happens over time when we stay teachable and humble.
Wisdom Growth Journal:
Take a composition notebook and create your “Wisdom Growth Journal”! Decorate the cover with “My Journey to Wisdom” and tape small envelope pockets inside for collecting advice. Create sections like “Good Advice I Received,” “Discipline That Helped Me Grow,” and “Wisdom I’m Learning.” Each week, write down advice someone gave you and how you applied it. Track moments when accepting correction helped you improve. Add a “Wisdom Progress Chart” where you can see yourself growing wiser over time by practicing listening and accepting guidance!
