Mission Briefing
Secret Hero Giving
Have you ever wanted everyone to know about something good you did? It feels great to be noticed! But Jesus teaches us about a different kind of giving – the secret kind – and it comes with the best reward of all. This mission explores Matthew 6:1-4.
What Does Matthew 6:1-4 Mean?
Jesus says that when we do good things just so people will clap for us, we’ve already gotten our reward – and that’s all we’ll get. But when we give secretly, without making a big announcement, God Himself sees it and rewards us. Our Father in heaven notices every quiet act of kindness, even when no one else does. That’s the most amazing audience we could ever have!
Hero Challenge
This week, do one secret act of giving – leave an encouraging note without signing your name, put some coins in a charity box quietly, or do a chore before anyone wakes up. The goal: don’t tell anyone it was you. Let God be your only audience.
Did You Know?
Jesus mentions people blowing trumpets when they give – and while this might sound wild, wealthy people in His day really did make grand public displays of generosity to get praised! Jesus was teaching His followers to have a completely different motivation: love for God and others, not applause from people.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Can you do something kind for someone today without telling anyone you did it?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
Why do you think it matters to God whether we give to show off or give in secret? What’s the difference in our heart?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Social media makes it really tempting to share every good thing we do. How do you think Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 6 applies to that? How can you keep your heart motivated by God’s approval instead of people’s likes?
♥ Mission Prayer
Father, You see everything I do, even in secret. Help me give and serve because I love You and others — not to impress anyone. Teach me to find my joy in Your approval, not in people's praise. Amen.
