Mission Briefing

Share What You Have – Starting Right Now!

Sometimes we wait to be generous until we feel like we have a lot to give. But John the Baptist had a different idea! When the crowds asked him how to prepare for the Messiah, his answer was simple and immediate: if you have two of something and someone else has none, share. It’s that direct. This mission challenges us to act on what we already have! This mission explores Luke 3:11.

What Does Luke 3:11 Mean?

John the Baptist was the one who went ahead of Jesus to prepare people’s hearts. The crowds came to him and asked, “What should we do?” – meaning, how do we show that we’ve truly changed? His answer wasn’t about going to the temple more or following complicated rules. It was about something practical and immediate: share your extra with people who have nothing. Food and clothing – the basics – were what he pointed to. Real change shows up in what we do with what we have.

Hero Challenge

Look in your closet or your pantry this week with a parent. Find something you have extra of – a coat, a shirt, canned food, or a toy – and make a plan to give it to someone who needs it. John the Baptist would be proud of you!

Did You Know?

John the Baptist lived a very simple life – he wore clothes made of camel’s hair and ate locusts and wild honey! He practiced the message he preached. He didn’t hoard things for himself; he gave himself fully to his mission of pointing people to Jesus. His life was a living example of exactly what he told the crowds to do.

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

John said if you have two shirts and someone has none, you should share. Do you have something you could share with someone who needs it?

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

Why do you think John the Baptist’s first advice about following God was about sharing with others – not about praying more or going to church more? What does that tell us?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

John challenged people to act immediately on what they already had. Is there something you’ve been waiting to do for someone – waiting until you have “more” – that you could actually do right now? What’s holding you back?

♥ Mission Prayer

God, help me to stop waiting until I have more before I start giving. Show me what I already have that I can share with someone who needs it today. Amen.
