Mission Briefing

Behold the Lamb!

Imagine you are standing by a river when your friend suddenly points and shouts, “Look! He’s the one we’ve been waiting for!” That is exactly what happened when John the Baptist saw Jesus for the very first time. He knew right away that Jesus was someone extraordinary – someone who would change everything. This mission explores John 1:29.

What Does John 1:29 Mean?

In Bible times, a lamb was a special animal used as a sacrifice to ask God for forgiveness. John called Jesus the “Lamb of God” because Jesus came to take away the wrong things people do – not just for one family or one nation, but for the whole world. This means Jesus came for you, your friends, your neighbors, and everyone everywhere. That is the biggest, most amazing gift anyone has ever given!

Hero Challenge

This week, point someone toward Jesus – just like John did! Write a note, draw a picture, or tell a friend one thing you love about Jesus. You do not have to have a big speech; even one small, true thing can point someone in the right direction.

Did You Know?

John the Baptist had been preparing people for Jesus’ arrival for a long time before this moment. He had been telling everyone to get their hearts ready – and then, suddenly, Jesus was right there in front of him! John was so excited that he cried out for everyone nearby to hear. God loves using ordinary moments to reveal extraordinary things.

What did John call Jesus when he saw him coming?

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

Why do you think John used the word “Lamb” to describe Jesus? What does a lamb make you think of?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

John pointed people to Jesus instead of making himself the center of attention. How can you point others toward Jesus in your everyday life without making it feel forced or weird?

♥ Mission Prayer

Jesus, thank You for being the Lamb of God who takes away my sins and the sins of the whole world. Help me to point people toward You just like John did, with joy and boldness. Amen.
