Mission Briefing
Ask and You Shall Receive Wisdom
Has there ever been a test at school where you really, really wished you could just ask someone for the right answer? Here is the amazing news: when it comes to figuring out life, God says you CAN ask – and He promises to answer! This mission explores James 1:5.
What Does James 1:5 Mean?
James is telling us something incredible: if we feel confused or lost about what to do, we do not have to figure it out alone. All we have to do is ask God – and He will give us wisdom generously. That word “generously” means He does not give just a little bit. He does not complain that we asked too many questions. He gives freely and gladly because He wants us to live wisely.
Hero Challenge
Think of one decision you need to make or one confusing situation in your life right now. Before you ask a friend or even a parent, take one minute to pray first and ask God for wisdom. Then write down any ideas or thoughts that come to your mind – it might just be God answering your prayer!
Did You Know?
The book of James was likely written by James, the brother of Jesus – which means he grew up in the same house as the Son of God! James saw firsthand how Jesus lived with wisdom every day. He knew that wisdom from God is available to absolutely everyone, not just special or important people.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Wisdom means knowing the right thing to do. Can you think of a time when you did the right thing, even when it was hard?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
James says God gives wisdom “generously.” What do you think it feels like to receive something generous from someone who really loves you?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Why do you think God chose to make wisdom something we have to ask for, rather than something He automatically puts inside everyone? What does the act of asking teach us?
♥ Mission Prayer
Lord, I need Your wisdom today. Thank You for promising to give it generously to everyone who asks. Help me remember to come to You first when I am confused, and help me trust that You will guide me. Amen.
