Mission Briefing
God Loves Fairness
Did you know that God doesn’t just like fairness – He loves it? And He doesn’t just dislike cheating and wrong – He hates it! In this verse, God shows us His heart, and it beats strong for justice. This mission explores Isaiah 61:8.
What Does Isaiah 61:8 Mean?
God is speaking through Isaiah to a people who had been treated unfairly and robbed of what was rightfully theirs. He makes three big promises: I love justice, I hate what is wrong, and I will make it right. The word “recompense” means God will restore what was taken and make things fair again. And He seals it all with an everlasting covenant – an unbreakable promise. Our God is not distant from injustice; He’s moved by it.
Hero Challenge
God hates robbery and wrong – including taking credit for what others did, cheating on a test, or taking something that doesn’t belong to you. This week, examine your heart: is there anything you’ve taken that wasn’t yours – maybe a credit, a possession, or even someone’s reputation? Ask God to help you make it right.
Did You Know?
Isaiah 61 is one of the most famous chapters in the Bible – it’s the very passage Jesus read in the synagogue in Nazareth and said “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” (Luke 4:21) This chapter is about God coming to bring freedom, healing, and justice – through Jesus!
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
God loves fairness. Can you name something that you think is unfair? Do you think God cares about it?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
God says He will make wrongs right. Does that mean everything becomes fair right away? How does it help you to know God is keeping track and will bring justice?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
God promises to restore what was wrongly taken and make an everlasting covenant with His people. How does it change the way you handle injustice – whether against you or others – knowing that God is the ultimate Judge who loves fairness?
♥ Mission Prayer
Lord, thank You for being a God who loves justice and hates what is wrong. Help me love what You love and hate what You hate. Give me the courage to stand against unfairness and the trust to know that You will make all things right in the end. Amen.
