And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it," when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.
Isaiah 30:21

Mission Briefing

The Voice That Says “This Way!”

Have you ever been walking somewhere and heard someone call out to you – “Hey, over here!” – and it helped you find the right path? God promises something even better: He will speak to your heart and guide you whenever you are deciding which way to go! This mission explores Isaiah 30:21.

What Does Isaiah 30:21 Mean?

God made this promise to the people of Israel when they kept choosing to go their own way instead of trusting Him. He told them: even when you wander, I will speak up and redirect you. The voice behind them is a picture of a loving guide – like a shepherd who keeps the flock from going too far off the path. God promises to do that for us too, through His Word, prayer, and the nudging of His Spirit in our hearts.

Hero Challenge

This week, when you face a choice – even a small one like how to treat a friend or how to spend your time – pause and quietly ask God, “Which way, Lord?” Practice listening by sitting still for one minute after praying. Write down any thoughts or feelings that come. Over time, you will get better at recognizing God’s gentle guidance.

Did You Know?

In ancient Israel, shepherds walked behind their flocks to guide them – they did not just lead from the front. They would call out to guide the sheep away from danger. This verse uses that same idea to describe how God guides us from behind, always watching and redirecting us with love. It is a beautiful picture of how much He cares about where we end up.

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

God promises to tell us which way to go. Can you think of a time when someone helped you find the right path?

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

What does it mean to “hear” God’s voice? Do you think it always sounds like an actual voice, or could it be something else?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

Why do you think God says the guiding voice comes from “behind” you rather than in front? What does that say about how God works in our lives when we have already started going the wrong direction?

♥ Mission Prayer

Lord, thank You for promising to guide me even when I turn the wrong way. Help me slow down and listen for Your voice in my heart. I want to walk in Your path every day. Amen.
