Mission Briefing
Prepare Your Heart for a Great Harvest!
Imagine a farmer looking at a field that hasn’t been planted in years. The ground is hard and full of weeds. Before anything good can grow, that farmer has to break up the hard soil and get it ready. God says our hearts are the same way – sometimes we need to dig in and get them ready to receive amazing things from Him! This mission explores Hosea 10:12.
What Does Hosea 10:12 Mean?
“Fallow ground” is farmland that has been left unplanted and has become hard and overgrown. God is using this as a picture of hearts that have become hardened – maybe through disobedience, busyness, or just drifting away from Him. He’s calling His people to break up those hard places and start planting seeds of doing what is right. When we do, He promises to rain His love and goodness down on us like a refreshing shower.
Hero Challenge
Ask yourself honestly: is there an area of your heart that has gotten a little hard – maybe you’ve been avoiding prayer, holding a grudge, or going your own way? This week, do the brave work of “breaking up” that hard ground by addressing it. Talk to God about it, make things right, or start a new habit. Prepare your heart for a great harvest!
Did You Know?
Hosea was a prophet in Israel who used farming imagery constantly because most of his audience were farmers who understood the land. When soil is left fallow for too long, it gets dry, cracked, and almost impossible to plant in. But the same soil that is hard and unproductive can become incredibly fertile again with the right preparation and water – just like our hearts with God.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
What do plants need to grow? What do you think our hearts need to grow and become good?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
What do you think “hard ground” in your heart might look like? What are some things that make our hearts grow cold or hard toward God?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
God calls us to do the work of preparing our own hearts before He sends the rain. Why do you think God asks us to take responsibility for our own heart-preparation instead of just fixing everything for us? What does that tell you about how God sees you?
♥ Mission Prayer
Lord, show me if any part of my heart has grown hard or cold toward You. Give me the courage to break up that hard ground and prepare my heart to receive everything You want to give me. I am seeking You today — please rain Your goodness down on me. Amen.
