Mission Briefing
Chase Peace Like a Champion!
Being a peacemaker sounds calm and quiet – but this verse says to STRIVE for peace. That means it takes real effort and energy! Being a hero for peace is one of the most active and exciting callings in the Bible. This mission explores Hebrews 12:14.
What Does Hebrews 12:14 Mean?
The writer of Hebrews gives followers of God two big goals: pursue peace with everyone, and pursue holiness – which means living in a way that is set apart for God. These two things go hand in hand. When we are growing closer to God (holiness), it shows up in how we treat the people around us (peace). A life that honors God naturally reaches out to make peace with others, even when it’s tough.
Hero Challenge
Is there someone in your life with whom things feel tense or awkward – a sibling, a classmate, a neighbor? Take one brave step toward peace with them this week: a kind word, an apology if you owe one, or simply a friendly smile. Striving means trying on purpose!
Did You Know?
The book of Hebrews was written to encourage believers who were tempted to give up on their faith because life was getting difficult. “Strive” in the original Greek is a word that means to pursue something with focused energy, like an athlete chasing a finish line. Being a peacemaker was never meant to be passive – it’s an active, all-in pursuit!
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
What is one way you can help make peace with someone today – maybe share a toy, say sorry, or give a hug?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
Why do you think the Bible says to “strive” for peace instead of just saying “try to be nice”? What does the word strive tell you about how hard it sometimes is?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
How are pursuing peace with others and growing in holiness connected? Can you have one without the other? What does a life that actively chases both look like for a young person today?
♥ Mission Prayer
Lord, give me the strength and courage to be a peacemaker even when it is hard. Help me to grow closer to You every day so that Your peace flows through me to everyone around me.
