Mission Briefing
Don’t Stop Before the Finish Line
Imagine running a race, getting close to the finish line, and then deciding to sit down and quit. That would be heartbreaking! The writer of Hebrews says the same thing can happen in our faith journey – and the key to finishing strong is one powerful word: endurance. This mission explores Hebrews 10:36.
What Does Hebrews 10:36 Mean?
Endurance means keeping going even when you’re tired, even when it’s taking longer than you expected, even when you feel like quitting. This verse says we need endurance to do God’s will AND to receive what God has promised. That means the blessings and good things God has for us are on the other side of not giving up. You have to stay in the race to cross the finish line and receive the prize. Whatever God has called you to do – keep doing it!
Hero Challenge
Is there something God has put in your heart that you’ve started but keep putting off or almost quitting? This week, take one concrete step toward it and ask God to give you the endurance to keep going. Tell someone you trust about it so they can cheer you on.
Did You Know?
The book of Hebrews was written to people who had started following God but were tempted to give up because of pressure and difficulty. The whole book is one long, passionate encouragement not to quit. In fact, the very next chapter – Hebrews 11 – lists a whole “hall of fame” of people who endured and received God’s promises!
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Have you ever finished something hard like a puzzle or a drawing? How did it feel when you finished? God has good things waiting for us when we don’t quit either!
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
What is something you’ve been tempted to quit? What would happen if you kept going just a little longer?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
The verse connects doing God’s will with receiving God’s promise – both require endurance. What promise of God are you holding on to right now, and what does it look like to keep running toward it?
♥ Mission Prayer
Lord, give me the endurance to keep going when I want to quit. Help me to trust that what You've promised is worth every hard step of the journey. I don't want to stop before the finish line. Amen.
