Mission Briefing
Show Up and Stir Each Other Up!
Have you ever stirred hot cocoa and watched the whole cup come to life? That’s the kind of stirring Hebrews 10 is talking about – actively waking each other up to love and do good things! And it starts with one simple habit: showing up for each other. This mission explores Hebrews 10:24-25.
What Does Hebrews 10:24-25 Mean?
The writer of Hebrews tells believers to think carefully about how they can provoke – in a good way! – each other toward love and good works. The key ingredient is not neglecting to gather together. Being physically present with other believers is one of the main ways we encourage each other. When you show up, you remind others they are not alone. And the urgency increases as “the Day” – the return of Jesus – draws closer. We need each other more, not less, as time goes on.
Hero Challenge
Think of a community you belong to – your family, a youth group, a class, or a team. Make a commitment to show up fully this week: be present, engaged, and ready to encourage. Before you go, ask yourself: how can I stir someone up toward love or a good action today?
Did You Know?
Hebrews was written to a group of believers who were under pressure and starting to drift away from their faith community – some were even stopping coming to meetings altogether. The writer doesn’t scold them harshly, but lovingly urges them back: you need each other. This message is just as relevant today, when it’s easy to consume content alone on a screen and forget the power of genuine, face-to-face community.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Why do you think it’s important to be with people who love God and love you – like your family or a church community?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
What does it mean to “stir someone up” toward love and good works? Can you think of someone who has done that for you?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
The writer says not to neglect meeting together “all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” Why would urgency about Jesus’ return make community more important, not less?
