11 June 2024 · Hero Mission
God says: I will give you a brand-new heart and put a new spirit inside you. I'll take away your hard, stubborn heart and give you a soft heart that's ready to love. (Paraphrased for younger readers — original: Ezekiel 36:26 NIV)
Ezekiel 36:26

Mission Briefing

Ezekiel 36:26 is one of the most incredible promises in the whole Bible. God says: “I will give you a new heart.” Not a patch job. Not a quick fix. A BRAND NEW heart – soft, open, ready to love. See, when people live far from God, their hearts can get hard. Not like a rock you can touch – more like an attitude. Stubborn. Cold. Hard to change. You might know that feeling – when you just don’t WANT to be kind, or you don’t CARE about doing right, and nothing seems to get through to you. That’s a hard heart. And God says: bring it to Me. I’ll replace it.

This promise was first given to God’s people when they were a long way from home and a long way from God. They had made a lot of bad choices. Things looked hopeless. But God didn’t say “fix yourselves and then I’ll help you.” He said “I will do this – I will change you from the inside.” That’s transformation. And the amazing thing is, He still does this today. People who seem impossible to change… God changes them. Including you, when you ask Him to.

What Does Ezekiel 36:26 Mean?

You don’t have to try to be a different person all by yourself. God is in the business of changing hearts – and that includes yours. If there’s something in you that keeps causing trouble (maybe anger, or selfishness, or jealousy) – you don’t have to fix it alone. Ask God to do what He promised. He’s really good at turning stone into something living.

Mission Activity

Find a small stone and hold it in your hand – notice how hard it is. Then get some clay or playdough (or just crumple and re-shape a piece of paper). As you shape the soft material, pray and ask God to make your heart like that – soft, shapeable, ready to be moulded by Him. Keep the stone nearby as a reminder of what He changed you FROM. (Note: the verse above is paraphrased to help younger readers connect with its meaning. The original is Ezekiel 36:26 NIV.)

♥ Mission Prayer

Dear God, if there are parts of my heart that are hard or stubborn, please change them. Give me a new heart that's soft and open to You. I want to love the way You love. Change me from the inside out. Amen.
