Mission Briefing
Pray for Wisdom – God Loves to Give It!
Paul prayed one of the coolest prayers ever recorded in the Bible – not for money, not for safety, but for WISDOM and REVELATION. And the amazing thing? That prayer was for YOU and every other follower of Jesus who reads it! This mission explores Ephesians 1:17.
What Does Ephesians 1:17 Mean?
Paul was praying that God would give believers the Holy Spirit’s gift of wisdom – the ability to truly understand who God is and how He works. Revelation means God showing us things we couldn’t figure out on our own. Together, they add up to really KNOWING God – not just knowing facts about Him, but knowing Him personally, deeply, and truly. That kind of knowledge changes everything about how you live!
Hero Challenge
Use Paul’s prayer as your own prayer this week! Each morning, pray: “God, give me the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so I can truly know You better today.” Then keep your eyes and heart open throughout the day for moments when you sense God teaching you something or showing you something new about who He is.
Did You Know?
Paul wrote the book of Ephesians while he was in prison in Rome. Even locked in chains, his biggest concern wasn’t his own comfort – it was that the believers in Ephesus would grow to truly know God. The city of Ephesus was a massive, wealthy city in what is now Turkey, and the church there was one of the most important in the early faith community!
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Did you know you can ask God to help you understand Him better? What is one thing about God you would love to know more about?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
Paul prayed for wisdom – not toys or fame or money. Why do you think he believed wisdom was such an important and valuable thing to ask God for?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Paul says the goal of wisdom and revelation is “knowledge of him” – knowing God personally. How is knowing God different from just knowing things about God, and why does that distinction matter for how you live your faith?
♥ Mission Prayer
Heavenly Father, give me the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so I can truly know You more each day. Open my eyes to see You at work around me and in Your Word. May knowing You be the greatest adventure of my life.
