Mission Briefing
God’s Promises Never Have an Expiration Date!
Have you ever opened a carton of milk and seen that it expires in a few days? Everything in our world has an expiration date – except God’s love and promises. They last for a THOUSAND GENERATIONS. Do you know how long that is? Way, way longer than forever! This mission explores Deuteronomy 7:9.
What Does Deuteronomy 7:9 Mean?
God is called “the faithful God” here – faithful means He keeps every single promise He makes, always. A “covenant” is like a super serious promise – stronger than any contract or pinky promise. God made this covenant with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the way down to YOU. His steadfast love (which means love that never quits) reaches from generation to generation – that means from your great-great-great grandparents all the way to your future great-great-great grandchildren!
Hero Challenge
Ask a parent or grandparent to share one story of how they saw God be faithful in their life. Write it down or draw a picture of it. You are part of a long chain of people who have experienced God’s faithfulness – and now it’s your turn to add your own story!
Did You Know?
A thousand generations would span roughly 20,000 to 30,000 years! That number was used to show something that simply never ends. When the Bible was written, this was a way of saying God’s faithfulness stretches further than any human mind can imagine. His love for you has no end date.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Does God ever forget His promises? What does it mean that God is faithful?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
What is the difference between a regular promise and a covenant? Why does it matter that God makes a covenant – not just a promise – with His people?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
God’s faithfulness to a thousand generations means it covers your ancestors and your future descendants. How does knowing you are part of God’s long story of faithfulness change how you see your own life and choices?
♥ Mission Prayer
Lord, thank You for being the faithful God who keeps every promise. I am amazed that Your love reaches all the way to me and to every generation. Help me to love You and trust Your promises all the days of my life. Amen.
