Mission Briefing

A Clean Conscience Is Worth Fighting For

Paul was standing on trial – people were accusing him of all kinds of terrible things. But Paul had a secret weapon: a clear conscience. He knew he had done nothing wrong, and that gave him incredible confidence! This mission explores Acts 24:16.

What Does Acts 24:16 Mean?

A “clear conscience” means you have nothing to feel guilty about – no hidden wrongs, no unconfessed sins hanging over your head. Paul said he worked hard – “took pains” – to keep his conscience clear before both God and people. That means it doesn’t happen automatically! You have to be intentional about living with honesty and making things right when you mess up. A clear conscience is one of the most peaceful things you can have.

Hero Challenge

Is there anything on your conscience right now – something you’ve done wrong that hasn’t been made right yet? This week, take a brave step: confess it to God, and if needed, make it right with the person involved. Notice how much lighter you feel afterward!

Did You Know?

At the time Paul said this, he was being held by Roman governor Felix after Jewish leaders accused him of causing riots and breaking temple laws. Paul calmly defended himself – not with anger, but with the confidence of someone who knew he had nothing to hide. His clear conscience gave him strength that his accusers couldn’t shake.

Does it feel good or bad to do something wrong and not say sorry? (Bad – but saying sorry makes it better!)

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

What does it mean to have a “clear conscience”? How do you get one?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

Paul said he “always took pains” to keep a clear conscience – why do you think that required effort? What makes it hard to maintain?

♥ Mission Prayer

Lord, I want to have a clear conscience before You and before the people in my life. Help me to make things right quickly when I mess up, and to live in a way I'm not ashamed of. Amen.
