Mission Briefing
Plant Big, Harvest Big!
Have you ever planted seeds in a garden? Here’s a farming fact: if you throw in just a few seeds, you get a few plants. But if you scatter seeds everywhere generously, you get an amazing harvest! God uses this same idea to teach us something powerful about living generously. This mission explores 2 Corinthians 9:6.
What Does 2 Corinthians 9:6 Mean?
“Sows” means plants, and “reaps” means harvests. Paul is teaching that the way we give – of our time, money, kindness, and help – works like farming. If we’re stingy and hold everything back for ourselves, we get very little back. But when we give generously and freely, God makes sure an abundant harvest comes back to us. Generous living is never wasted – it always grows into something more.
Hero Challenge
Look for three opportunities this week to give generously in different ways – maybe give money to someone in need, give your time to help someone without being asked, and give encouragement to someone who feels down. Keep track of what you gave and what came back to you – it might surprise you!
Did You Know?
Paul wrote this to a church in Corinth that was collecting money to help believers in Jerusalem who were going through a famine and struggling to survive. He wanted them to understand that giving generously to others was not just charity – it was a spiritual principle. The most generous givers in history consistently report that they feel like they receive far more than they give away.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
If a farmer plants lots and lots of seeds, what do you think will happen? How can you plant seeds of kindness this week?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
Why do you think being generous means you receive more, while being stingy means you receive less? How have you seen this work in real life?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
This principle applies to more than just money – it applies to kindness, time, encouragement, and love. Where in your life are you sowing sparingly when you could be sowing bountifully? What would it look like to change that?
♥ Mission Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to be a generous person — with my money, my time, my kindness, and my love. I don't want to hold back and sow sparingly. Give me a big, generous heart like Yours and help me trust that You will take care of me as I give freely. Amen.
