Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7

Mission Briefing

Throw Your Worries to God!

Do you ever lie awake at night worrying about things? School, friends, your family, the future? Peter – who had his own share of scary moments – wrote one of the most comforting verses in the entire Bible. You don’t have to carry your worries alone! This mission explores 1 Peter 5:7.

What Does 1 Peter 5:7 Mean?

The word “casting” in this verse is like throwing something – imagine throwing a heavy backpack off your shoulders and onto Someone strong enough to carry it! Peter is saying: take every worry, every fear, every “what if” – and THROW it onto God. The reason we can do this isn’t just because God is powerful enough to handle it. It’s because He actually CARES about you personally. Your worries matter to God because YOU matter to God.

Hero Challenge

Try this “worry casting” exercise: write down every worry on your mind on a small piece of paper. Then hold it, pray over it, and physically crumple or tear the paper as a way of saying, “God, I’m throwing this to You!” Then leave those worries with Him instead of picking them back up again.

Did You Know?

Peter wrote this letter to believers who were scattered across the Roman Empire, facing persecution and hardship. He knew what it felt like to be terrified – he had denied Jesus three times out of fear! But after being restored by Jesus, Peter became a rock of courage. His advice to cast worries on God came from someone who had personally experienced God’s care in the darkest of moments.

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

What is something that sometimes makes you feel worried or scared? Can you tell God about it right now and ask Him to take care of it?

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

Peter says to cast your worries on God “because he cares for you.” How does knowing that God really cares about you personally make it easier to let go of worry?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

Casting your anxieties on God is a decision, not just a feeling. What does it look like practically to “cast” your worries on God instead of just telling yourself to stop worrying – and how do you keep from picking them back up?
