What Does 1 John 3:7 Mean?

John is warning young believers not to be fooled by people who talk about doing right but actually live differently. His point is simple: a truly righteous person – someone who is good and godly – will actually practice righteousness, meaning they will consistently make right choices in real life. Just like Jesus is righteous, those who follow Him will show it through how they live. You can’t claim to be something you don’t act like!

He had walked closely with Jesus for years and had seen firsthand that Jesus’s righteousness wasn’t just talk; every moment of Jesus’s life matched His words perfectly. John wanted the next generation of believers to have that same integrity. In fact, John is known as “the apostle of love” because his letters are so full of heart and care.
