Mission Briefing

You Are What You Do

Actions speak louder than words – and God agrees! John’s message to “little children” is a powerful reminder that what you do every day shows who you really are on the inside. This mission explores 1 John 3:7.

What Does 1 John 3:7 Mean?

John is warning young believers not to be fooled by people who talk about doing right but actually live differently. His point is simple: a truly righteous person – someone who is good and godly – will actually practice righteousness, meaning they will consistently make right choices in real life. Just like Jesus is righteous, those who follow Him will show it through how they live. You can’t claim to be something you don’t act like!

Hero Challenge

Think about one area of your life where your actions might not match what you say you believe. Maybe it’s being kind online but mean in person, or saying you forgive someone but still being cold toward them. This week, pick one area and work to make your actions match your faith. Ask God to help you close the gap!

Did You Know?

John wrote his letters late in his life, when he was very old – which is why he calls his readers “little children” with such warmth. He had walked closely with Jesus for years and had seen firsthand that Jesus’s righteousness wasn’t just talk; every moment of Jesus’s life matched His words perfectly. John wanted the next generation of believers to have that same integrity. In fact, John is known as “the apostle of love” because his letters are so full of heart and care.

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

John says good people do good things! What is one good thing you can do today to show you love God?

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

Why do you think it matters that your actions match what you believe? Can you think of a time when someone’s actions showed you something important about their character?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

John says whoever practices righteousness is righteous. Does this mean we have to be perfect? How do consistent daily choices – not just big moments – shape who we become?
