1 Corinthians 3:7

So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.
1 Corinthians 3:7

Mission Briefing

God Is the One Who Makes Things Grow!

Have you ever planted a seed and watched it sprout? You dug the hole, dropped in the seed, and watered it – but you didn’t actually make it grow. Something amazing and invisible happened inside that seed that only God could do. That’s the secret behind this powerful verse! This mission explores 1 Corinthians 3:7.

What Does 1 Corinthians 3:7 Mean?

Paul is talking about how the early church worked. Some people planted seeds of faith by sharing the gospel, and others watered those seeds by teaching and encouraging believers. But Paul makes it clear: neither the planter nor the waterer is the one who really matters – God is the one who makes everything grow and flourish. This teaches us an amazing lesson about humility. We do our part, but the real power belongs to God.

Hero Challenge

This week, do something kind or share something true and good with a friend or family member – plant or water a seed! Then let go of the results and trust God to do what only He can do. You are not responsible for the harvest – just for faithfully doing your part.

Did You Know?

Paul wrote this to the Corinthian church because they were arguing about which leader was the most important – Paul or Apollos. Paul basically said, “You’re both missing the point! Neither of us matters the way you think. Only God has the real power.” It was a humble and bold thing to say about himself – but it was completely true, and it stopped the argument cold.

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

When you plant a seed, who makes it actually grow into a plant? What does that tell us about how powerful God is?

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

Why is it important to remember that God is the one who makes things grow – even when WE are the ones doing the work of planting and watering?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

It can be tempting to feel proud when something we do seems to produce great results. How does remembering this verse keep you humble? How does it also take the pressure off when things don’t seem to be working the way you hoped?

♥ Mission Prayer

Father God, help me to do my part faithfully — to plant and to water wherever You ask me to. And help me to remember that only YOU can make things truly grow. I don't need the credit — I just want to be useful in Your hands. Amen.
