Saved by Kindness, Not by Trying
What if you could never be good enough, no matter how hard you tried – but Someone rescued you anyway, purely out of kindness? That is the most amazing news in the world, and it is exactly what Titus 3:4-5 tells us!
What Does Titus 3:4-5 Mean?
Paul wrote to Titus that when God’s goodness and kindness appeared in Jesus, He saved us – but not because we earned it. Not one bit. He saved us purely out of His own mercy. The Holy Spirit washes us clean on the inside and makes us brand new – like a fresh start that goes all the way to the core of who we are. There is nothing we can do to make God love us more, and nothing we can do to make Him love us less. His rescue comes from His heart, not our performance.
Hero Challenge
Write down three things you sometimes think you need to do to earn God’s approval. Then cross them out – one at a time – and write next to each one: “Jesus already did this for me.” Let that truth sink in: you are already fully accepted because of what He did, not what you do.
Did You Know?
The phrase “washing of regeneration” is a powerful picture. “Regeneration” means being born again – a completely new life starting fresh. Paul is saying the Holy Spirit does not just clean up the outside; He creates a brand new person on the inside. God does not just fix us – He remakes us.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
If you got really muddy and dirty, you would need someone to give you a bath to be clean. How is what the Holy Spirit does for our hearts like a really good bath?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
God saved us because He is kind – not because we were good enough. Why do you think that is better news than if He saved us because we earned it?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
If God’s salvation is completely based on His mercy and not on your performance, how does that free you from the pressure of trying to earn His love? And how might that freedom change the way you live?
♥ Mission Prayer
God, thank You for saving me out of Your kindness and mercy — not because I earned it. Thank You for the Holy Spirit who makes me clean and new on the inside. Help me to rest in Your grace instead of trying to earn something You have already freely given. Amen.
