Mission Briefing
God Is the God of Encouragement
Did you know that encouragement is so important that God Himself is called the God of Encouragement? Paul’s prayer in this verse is one you can pray for every team, every friendship, and every family you’re part of! This mission explores Romans 15:5.
What Does Romans 15:5 Mean?
Paul wrote this as a prayer-wish for the believers in Rome, who came from very different backgrounds – Jewish and non-Jewish, rich and poor, strong and weak in faith. He asked God to help them live in harmony, which means working together in peace rather than fighting over differences. The source of that harmony? Following Jesus together! When we all focus on Christ, we naturally start pulling in the same direction – like a team rowing a boat toward the same goal.
Hero Challenge
Be an encourager this week! Write a note, send a message, or say out loud one specific encouraging thing to someone in your family, class, or friend group each day. At the end of the week, count how many people you encouraged. Notice how it also encourages YOU!
Did You Know?
The word “encouragement” in the Bible comes from a Greek word that also gives us the name for the Holy Spirit – Paraclete – which means one who comes alongside to help. So encouragement isn’t just nice words; it’s actually reflecting what the Holy Spirit does for us! When you encourage someone, you’re acting like the Holy Spirit in their life.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Can you think of something kind and true you could say to someone to make them feel good today? Let’s call that being an encourager!
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
Paul prays for harmony among believers. What makes it hard for people to get along? How does focusing on Jesus help?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
God is called the God of endurance AND encouragement. Why do you think those two things go together? How does receiving encouragement help you endure hard things?
♥ Mission Prayer
God of encouragement, fill me with Your Spirit so I can build up the people around me. Help our family and friendships to have harmony that comes from following Jesus together. Amen.
