Mission Briefing
Don’t Pay Back – Pay Forward
When someone is mean to you, the easiest thing in the world is to be mean right back. But God’s heroes take a totally different path – one that’s harder but way more powerful. Ready to find out what it is? This mission explores Romans 12:17-18.
What Does Romans 12:17-18 Mean?
Paul says we should never repay evil with evil – no revenge, no getting back at people. Instead, we should think carefully about doing what is good and honorable. And as much as it depends on US, we should try to be at peace with everyone. Notice he says “as far as it depends on you” – that means we can only control what WE do, not what others do. Our job is to choose peace even when others don’t.
Hero Challenge
Think of someone who has been unkind to you lately. Instead of ignoring them or getting them back, do one kind thing for them this week – share a snack, give a compliment, or include them in a game. It doesn’t mean what they did was okay; it means you’re choosing to be the bigger hero.
Did You Know?
Paul wrote the book of Romans while living in a world where Christians were often treated very unfairly. These weren’t just nice ideas – they were survival instructions for people under real pressure. The fact that they chose peace instead of revenge is one reason the early faith community grew so quickly. People noticed they were different!
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
When someone is mean to us, we can choose to be kind back instead of mean. Can you think of one kind thing you could do for someone today?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
What is the difference between letting someone keep being mean to you and choosing not to get revenge? Can you do one without doing the other?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Paul says “as far as it depends on you” – meaning peace isn’t always possible because it takes two people. What do you do when you’ve done your part but the other person still won’t make peace?
♥ Mission Prayer
Lord, when someone hurts me, help me not to pay them back with more hurt. Give me the strength to choose peace and to do what is good even when it's hard. Amen.
