Mission Briefing
Be a Peace-Chaser!
Most heroes are known for chasing something – an adventure, a villain, a treasure. But did you know God calls YOU to be a peace-chaser? That means actively going after peace in every situation, every day. And it starts with turning away from what is wrong and doing what is right! This mission explores Psalms 34:14.
What Does Psalms 34:14 Mean?
This verse has three action steps: TURN away from evil (stop going in the wrong direction), DO good (take positive action), and SEEK and PURSUE peace. “Pursue” is a strong word – it means to actively chase after something, like a dog chasing a ball. Peace doesn’t always come naturally to us. We have to choose it, chase it, and work for it in our relationships and our own hearts.
Hero Challenge
Think of a relationship in your life where there is tension, conflict, or awkwardness. This week, take one step to pursue peace in that relationship – apologize if you need to, start a conversation, or do something kind. Being a peacemaker is one of the most heroic things you can do.
Did You Know?
Psalm 34 was written by David after he pretended to be crazy to escape from an enemy king – and it actually worked! Instead of celebrating with a boastful song, David wrote about how God rescued him and then gave practical advice about how to live wisely. This verse is part of a whole section where David teaches others what he learned from his wild experiences.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
When two friends are arguing, what is one thing you could do to help make things peaceful again?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
The verse says to “pursue” peace, which means to chase it. Why do you think peace is something we have to actively go after instead of just waiting for it to happen?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
The verse says first turn from evil, then do good, then pursue peace – in that order. Why do you think the turning away part has to happen before you can truly bring peace? What happens when we skip that step?
♥ Mission Prayer
Father God, help me to turn away from the things that are wrong and choose to do what is good. Make me a peace-chaser in every relationship I have. Give me the courage to pursue peace even when it's easier to argue or stay angry. Amen.
