Psalms 121:2

Mission Briefing

The Biggest Helper in the Universe!

When you need help with something really big – something way too hard to handle alone – where do you turn? The writer of this psalm knew exactly where to look, and the answer is breathtaking! This mission explores Psalms 121:2.

What Does Psalms 121:2 Mean?

The person who wrote Psalm 121 was looking up at the mountains around Jerusalem and asking where their help would come from. Then they answered their own question: it comes from God – the One who created everything, including those giant mountains! If God is powerful enough to make heaven and earth, He is definitely powerful enough to help you with whatever you are facing today.

Hero Challenge

Write down one thing you are facing right now that feels too big or scary to handle on your own. Then pray about it every single day this week, reminding yourself: “My help comes from the LORD.” Watch for the ways God shows up for you!

Did You Know?

Psalm 121 is one of fifteen “Songs of Ascents” – that means it was sung by people as they traveled uphill to Jerusalem for worship festivals. Pilgrims would look up at the mountains and hills along the way and sing this psalm to remind themselves that God was watching over every step. What an incredible travel playlist!

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

Who made the mountains, the ocean, and all the stars? If God made all of that, do you think He can help you when you’re scared or sad?

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

Why is it important to know that our help comes from God and not just from ourselves or other people? How does that change how we handle problems?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

The psalmist looked at the mountains and chose to look to God. What “mountains” – big challenges – are you facing, and how can you actively choose to look to God for help this week?

♥ Mission Prayer

Lord, You made heaven and earth, and You are more than big enough to help me. When I feel scared or overwhelmed, remind me to look up and trust in You. Thank You for being my helper.
