Mission Briefing
Trusting God with everything sounds easy until you are in a situation where you really, really want to be in charge. Maybe you are nervous about something coming up, or you have a plan and you are hoping it works, or something happened that you do not understand and you wish you could fix it yourself. Proverbs 3:5-6 speaks right into that moment. It says: trust in the Lord with all your heart – not half your heart, not your heart when things are going well – all of it. And lean on His understanding, not just your own.
That second part is important. Leaning on your own understanding means making decisions based only on what you can see and figure out. But God sees the whole picture – things you cannot see from where you are standing. When you trust Him with all of it and let Him lead, He promises to make your path straight. Not always easy. Not always the path you would have chosen. But straight – heading somewhere good, guided by Someone who knows exactly where He is taking you.
What Does Proverbs 3:5-6 Mean?
Is there something you are carrying right now that you have been trying to figure out on your own? Trust does not mean stopping thinking – it means doing your best and then handing it to God instead of gripping it with both hands. Practise saying out loud: “God, I trust You with this.” Then actually let go of it, at least for today.
Mission Activity
Write one worry or big thing on a slip of paper. Fold it up small. Then either put it in a jar (your family’s “trust jar”) or tear it up as an act of giving it to God. Talk about what it felt like to let go of it, even just symbolically. If you have a jar, read the slips together at the end of the week and see how many things God handled. (Note: the verse above is paraphrased to help younger readers connect with its meaning. The original is Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV.)
♥ Mission Prayer
Dear God, I want to trust You with everything — even the stuff I am worried about and want to fix myself. Help me to let go of my grip and put it in Your hands instead. You see the whole picture. I trust You. Amen.
