Sharpening Friends: Helping Each Other Grow
Verse Of The Day:
"As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." (Proverbs 27:17)
Imagine a dull pencil that needs to be sharpened to write well. When you use a sharpener, it gets sharper and ready to do its best work! That’s what friends do for each other. In Proverbs 27:17, we learn that just like iron sharpens iron, we can help our friends grow, and they can help us become better.
God gives us friends to encourage, support, and challenge us in a good way. Sometimes, our friends might help us make better choices, and other times, we might be the ones helping them. When we spend time with people who love God and want to do what’s right, we help each other grow in faith and wisdom.
Just like sharpening a tool makes it work better, spending time with good friends helps us be our best selves. We learn from each other, we encourage one another, and together, we become stronger and sharper in our love for God.
Sharpening Star Craft:
Create a “Sharpening Star” craft! Cut out a large star shape from paper or cardboard and write down the names of friends who help you grow in your faith and who make you better. Around each name, write or draw how they help you, like “Encourages me,” “Helps me make good choices,” or “Prays for me.” Hang the star up to remind you that your friends are a gift from God, and you can help sharpen each other. This craft helps kids understand the importance of strong friendships that help them grow.

Dear God, thank You for giving us friends who help us grow and become better. Help us to be good friends who encourage, support, and sharpen one another in faith. Teach us to appreciate the people You’ve placed in our lives, and may we always help each other grow closer to You. Amen.
