19 October 2025 · Hero Mission
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Mission Briefing

Guard Your Mind Like a Hero

Did you know that what you think about all day long shapes who you are becoming? God gives heroes a special mission – to fill their minds with good, true, and beautiful things. That’s not always easy, but it’s one of the most powerful quests you can go on! This mission explores Philippians 4:8.

What Does Philippians 4:8 Mean?

In Philippians 4:8, the apostle Paul gives believers a mental checklist. Every thought we let into our minds is like a seed – whatever we plant grows. Paul’s list covers every angle: truth, honor, justice, purity, loveliness, and excellence. He’s not just talking about avoiding bad things; he’s calling us to actively chase after good things. When our minds are filled with what is true and good, our hearts and actions follow. This is how a hero guards the most important territory of all – the inside.

Hero Challenge

This week, try the “Thought Swap” challenge. Every time a mean, jealous, or unkind thought pops into your head, swap it out for something from Paul’s list. Write down five things that are TRUE about someone you love. Write down five things that are LOVELY about the world around you. Tape the list somewhere you can see it every day, and let it be your mental shield!

Did You Know?

Paul wrote Philippians from prison – which makes his words even more remarkable! He could have been thinking about how unfair his situation was, yet he chose to write one of the most joyful and hopeful letters in the entire Bible. Paul’s own life proved that it is possible to guard your mind and choose good thoughts even when life is hard. That’s a true hero move.

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

When something mean or scary pops into your head, what’s one happy or good thing you can think about instead? (Hint: maybe a person you love, or something beautiful God made!)

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

Paul wrote this letter from jail. Why do you think he talked about thinking good thoughts even when things are really hard? What does that tell you about the power of our minds?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

Philippians 4:8 gives a whole list of qualities for our thoughts. Which one do you find hardest to focus on – truth, purity, or something else – and why? What’s one habit you could build to make that area stronger?

♥ Mission Prayer

Lord, help me to fill my mind with things that are true, good, and beautiful. When I am tempted to dwell on bad thoughts, remind me of Your goodness and give me the strength to think on better things. Guard my heart and my mind so that what grows inside me brings You glory.
