Matthew 7:24-25

19 October 2025 · Hero Mission
Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.
Matthew 7:24-25

Mission Briefing

Build on the Rock That Never Moves

Imagine spending months building the most amazing sandcastle – only for one wave to wash it all away. Now imagine building that same castle on solid rock. Which would you choose? Jesus says life is exactly the same – it all depends on what you build it on! This mission explores Matthew 7:24-25.

What Does Matthew 7:24-25 Mean?

Jesus told this parable at the end of His famous Sermon on the Mount. He had just spent a long time teaching people how to live – and now He was saying: it is not enough to just hear these things and nod. You have to actually DO them. When we obey Jesus, we are like a builder who chooses the strongest possible foundation. When storms come – and they will come – our lives do not crumble because we are built on something that cannot be shaken.

Hero Challenge

Think of one teaching from Jesus that you know but have not fully put into practice yet – maybe forgiving someone, being honest, or helping someone in need. This week, take one small step to actually DO that teaching. Hearing is just the beginning – doing is where the real building happens.

Did You Know?

Jesus told this parable while standing in Galilee, a region where flash floods in riverbeds were a real danger. His audience had seen beautiful-looking homes built in dry streambeds collapse in seconds when the rains came. They immediately understood the stakes. Jesus made a very real-life problem into a spiritual lesson His listeners would never forget.

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

In the story, one house fell down and one did not. What was different about the two houses?

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

What do you think the “rock” represents in this story? What does it mean to build your life on that rock?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

Jesus says the wise builder both hears AND does His words. Why is it possible to hear Jesus’s teachings your whole life and still not be building on the rock? What is the missing step?

♥ Mission Prayer

Jesus, I want to build my life on You — the rock that never moves. Help me not just hear Your words but actually live them out every day. When storms come, remind me that I am safe because I am standing on You. Amen.
