Mission Briefing
Matthew 28:19 is Jesus’ final instruction before He ascended to heaven. He didn’t say, “Stay put and be comfortable.” He said GO. Go to all nations. Help people become His followers. Baptize them. Teach them. This is called the Great Commission – and it’s not just for pastors or missionaries. It’s for every single person who follows Jesus. Including you. Right now. At your age. In your world.
The great news about “go” is that you don’t have to pack a bag for another country to obey it. Your “all nations” might be your classroom, your street, your soccer team, or your family group chat. Jesus said go to the places you already are, and be intentional there. Share what you believe. Invite someone to learn. Help someone understand who Jesus is. The mission field is closer than you think.
What Does Matthew 28:19 Mean?
You’ve been sent. Right now, Jesus’ words in Matthew 28:19 apply to you just as much as they applied to the original disciples. You’re not waiting on the bench for your turn – you’re already in the game. The courage you need to step into that mission isn’t something you drum up yourself. It’s something God gives as you go. Take one step. Say one thing. Invite one person. The going is what unlocks the courage. Don’t wait to feel ready – go and trust that God goes with you.
Mission Activity
Draw a map of your world – your house, your school, your neighborhood. Mark five spots on the map where you could “go” this week – places where you might share something about your faith or show Jesus’ love in action. Circle the one that feels most doable and make a plan: Who? What will you say or do? When? Write it down and follow through. (Note: the verse above is paraphrased to help younger readers connect with its meaning. The original is Matthew 28:19 NIV.)
♥ Mission Prayer
Dear God, thank You for including me in Your big mission. Help me not to wait until I'm older or braver or more perfect. Give me courage to go — to my classroom, my neighborhood, my world — and share what I know about You. Amen.
