Mission Briefing
Our Choices Really Matter!
This is one of the most serious and sobering things Jesus ever said. He was sitting at the Last Supper with His disciples, and He knew one of them was about to betray Him. These words are a powerful reminder that our choices carry real weight – and God sees every one of them. This mission explores Matthew 26:24.
What Does Matthew 26:24 Mean?
Jesus knew that Judas Iscariot was about to hand Him over to the religious leaders for thirty pieces of silver. Jesus acknowledged that this was all part of God’s plan – written in Scripture long before – but He also made clear that Judas made a real choice, and that choice had real consequences. God’s plan moves forward even when people make wrong choices, but those choices still matter deeply. This verse teaches us that what we choose to do – especially toward others – is incredibly serious.
Hero Challenge
Judas let greed and disappointment lead him to make a terrible choice. This week, pay attention to the small choices you make – especially when no one is watching. Are you choosing loyalty or selfishness? Honesty or convenience? Great heroes are built one small, faithful choice at a time.
Did You Know?
The price of thirty silver coins that Judas received was actually foretold by the prophet Zechariah over 500 years before it happened (Zechariah 11:12-13)! Even the specific amount was part of a prophecy. And incredibly, Zechariah also predicted that the money would be thrown into the house of God – which is exactly what Judas did when he felt guilty and tried to return the coins to the temple.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Sometimes we make choices that hurt others. When we make a wrong choice, what should we do? (Hint: say sorry and ask for forgiveness!)
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
Judas made a very bad choice even though he had been with Jesus. Why is it important to stay close to God in your heart, not just on the outside?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
God’s plan couldn’t be stopped, even by Judas’s betrayal. Yet Jesus still said it would have been better for Judas if he’d never been born. What does this tell us about both God’s sovereignty and human responsibility?
♥ Mission Prayer
Father, help me to make faithful choices — even small ones — every single day. Guard my heart against greed, selfishness, and betrayal, and help me to live with integrity before You. Amen.
