Mission Briefing
The Return of the King
In great stories, the king always comes back. But no fictional return will ever come close to this one – Jesus coming on the clouds of Heaven with power and glory so great that the whole earth will see it. This is the return of the King of Kings! This mission explores Matthew 24:30-31.
What Does Matthew 24:30-31 Mean?
Jesus is describing His own return at the end of time – and it will be impossible to miss. A sign will appear in the sky, Jesus will come on the clouds with power and great glory, and His angels will go to every corner of the earth to gather His people. “From one end of heaven to the other” means no one who belongs to Him will be left behind. It is the ultimate gathering of God’s family.
Hero Challenge
Jesus’ return will be seen by everyone – it won’t be a secret. This week, think about whether you are living in a way that you’d be ready and excited if Jesus returned today. Write down one thing you want to change or start doing to be more ready.
Did You Know?
Jesus said these words on the Mount of Olives just days before His crucifixion. His disciples had asked Him privately what signs to look for before the end of the age. This entire chapter – Matthew 24 – is called the “Olivet Discourse” and is one of the most detailed descriptions of the end times Jesus ever gave. Clouds in the Bible often represent God’s presence and glory.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
If Jesus is coming back on the clouds one day, how does that make you feel – excited, nervous, or something else?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
Why do you think Jesus sends His angels to gather people from every corner of the earth when He returns?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Jesus says His coming will be visible to everyone. How should the certainty and visibility of His return affect the way we talk about our faith with others?
♥ Mission Prayer
