It’s Okay to Ask for Help Believing
Have you ever wanted to believe something with your whole heart, but part of you still felt unsure? You’re in great company – a brave dad in the Bible felt the exact same way, and what he did next changed everything!
What Does This Mean?
A father came to Jesus desperate for help – his son was very sick and had been for years. When Jesus said healing was possible for those who believed, the dad said something beautifully honest: “I believe, but help me believe even more!” He didn’t pretend to have perfect faith. He was real with Jesus about his struggle, and Jesus healed his son anyway. God loves it when we’re honest with Him – even about our doubts!
Hero Challenge
This week, try being completely honest with God in your prayers. If there’s something you’re struggling to trust Him with, tell Him! Say, “God, I believe, but help me believe more.” Watch how He meets you right where you are.
Did You Know?
The story of the father and his son is found in Matthew, Mark, and Luke – three different Gospel books all record it because it was such a powerful moment. Jesus didn’t get frustrated with the father’s honesty; He responded with a miracle. God is never surprised or put off by our honest prayers.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
When you feel a little scared or unsure, do you know you can ask God to help you feel more sure? What would you ask Him for right now?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
The dad was honest about having doubts AND faith at the same time. Do you think God is okay with that? Why or why not?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
What does it take to be honest with God about your doubts? Is there an area of your life where you need to pray “help my unbelief” – and what might change if you did?
