Mission Briefing
Some rules feel like walls – they fence you in and make life smaller. But in Mark 2:27, Jesus flips the script on how people were thinking about rest. He says: “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.” In other words, rest was designed as a gift FOR you – not a cage around you. God looked at the people He made, saw that they’d need to stop and breathe and recover, and built rest into the week as an act of love.
This is important because a lot of people carry guilt about resting. They feel like they should always be doing more, achieving more, being productive. But Jesus says no – rest is built into God’s design on purpose. It’s not a reward you earn by being busy enough. It’s a gift you receive because God loves you and knows what you need. You were made for rest, and rest was made for you.
What This Means For You
Next time you sit down to read a book, play outside, take a nap, or just breathe – you don’t have to feel guilty about it. You’re not being lazy. You’re receiving a gift that God specifically made for people like you. Rest is part of how you were designed. It restores you, refills you, and gets you ready for everything that comes next. Say yes to the gift.
Mission Activity
Design your own “Rest Day Menu” on a piece of paper decorated with your favourite colours. List 5 activities that make you feel truly refreshed – sleeping in, baking, nature walks, drawing, reading, playing with a pet. Circle your top pick and schedule it this week – actually put it on the calendar like an appointment. Rest is that important.
♥ Mission Prayer
Dear God, thank You that rest is a gift You made for me — not a rule to make my life harder. Help me to receive it as the gift it is. Remind me that You designed me to need rest, and taking it isn't being lazy. It's being wise. Help me to stop and rest without guilt. Amen.
