"Then he said to them, ‘The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.’" (Mark 2:27)
Imagine getting a gift that’s so special, it’s meant to make your life better every week! That’s exactly what the Sabbath is—a wonderful gift from God, made just for you. In Mark 2:27, Jesus reminds us that the Sabbath wasn’t given to us as just another rule to follow, but as a time of rest and joy that we really need.
Think about your favorite day off, where you get to relax, play, and spend time with your family. The Sabbath is like that, but even better! It’s a day when we can stop all our busy activities and focus on resting, recharging, and enjoying God’s presence. God knows how important it is for us to take a break, so He gave us this special day to refresh our bodies, minds, and hearts.
Jesus wanted everyone to understand that the Sabbath is a blessing. It’s not about doing everything perfectly, but about finding peace and joy in God’s presence. When we honor the Sabbath, we’re saying, “Thank You, God, for caring about us so much that You gave us this day to rest and be happy.”
Sabbath Joy Jar:
Create a “Sabbath Joy Jar” with your family. Each week, write down one special thing you did on the Sabbath that brought you joy or helped you feel closer to God, and put it in the jar. Decorate the jar with bright colors and words like “Rest,” “Joy,” and “Peace.” At the end of each month, open the jar and read all the joyful moments you’ve collected. This activity helps you remember the happiness and blessings the Sabbath brings into your life.
Time For A Prayer:
Dear God, thank You for the gift of the Sabbath. Help us to understand how important it is to rest and enjoy the time You’ve given us. May our Sabbaths be filled with peace, joy, and Your presence. Teach us to appreciate this special day and to use it to grow closer to You and to those we love. Amen.
