The Upside-Down Way to Win

Jesus taught things that sounded backwards – like losing your life is actually how you save it! Get ready for one of the most powerful and surprising things He ever said. This mission explores Luke 9:23-24.

What Does Luke 9:23-24 Mean?

Jesus is saying that following Him means putting Him first – above what you want, above your own comfort, above being popular or liked. “Taking up your cross” means choosing the hard, right thing every day even when it costs you something. And here’s the mind-blowing part: when we stop living only for ourselves and start living for Jesus, we actually gain a life that is full and meaningful. Holding too tightly to your own plans means losing the better plan God has for you.

Hero Challenge

This week, look for one moment each day where you can choose Jesus’ way over your own way – maybe giving up something you want to help someone else, or choosing honesty when lying would be easier. Keep a simple tally at the end of each day. Watch how it shapes your heart over the week.

Did You Know?

When Jesus said “take up your cross,” His listeners knew exactly what that image meant – it was one of the heaviest, most humbling things a person could carry in that culture. Jesus wasn’t speaking in a comfortable metaphor; He was describing real sacrifice. Yet He promised that this kind of life leads to true freedom and life that lasts forever.
